It is well writen and easy to understand. I’ve given this 2 stars because it could still be useful to the novice interested in pulp writing, and because Card does explain himself clearly. No trivia or quizzes yet. Possibly the best part of the book is the third section on point of view. It is most certainly a reflection of the author’s own understanding of the inner workings of himself and the people around him.

He does a wonderful job of comparing the Svott options, discussing the strengths and limitations of each, how the characters come across differently in each one, and why you might want to use one versus the other in certain circumstances, for different effects. Again though, the information is quite elementary and what he does in several pages, other writers have accomplished as an opening paragraph in their orxon of similar themes.

Characters and Viewpoint shows you just that, how to craft characters through their actions, reactions, motivation, etc, with good examples throughout. For me, this section was worth the price of the book.
